Spring forward to treat and relieve your Spring Allergies

By: Dr. Scott Clack

Naturopathic medicine offers several different approaches to reducing or eliminating your allergy symptoms: one can be customized to your specific needs.

Reduce your allergenic load:

25 years of practice has taught me that many allergy sufferers are in a state of overload when they come for treatment. They may have one allergen (e.g., pollen or cat dander) that is the main trigger of their symptoms, but it’s actually compounding an underlying immune imbalance that occurs because of hidden allergies or sensitivities. Patients have reduced their allergy symptoms by following a 2–3-week cleanse, eliminating hidden food sensitivities and reducing their exposure to other allergens (e.g., dust, molds). Options for reducing other allergens include changing filters in the home (e.g., furnace filters or water filters) and doing a deep clean of the main rooms that the allergy sufferer uses.

Dr. Clack’s favourite case was a young man who consulted him in March (in Vancouver, B.C.) in anticipation of suffering from his annual spring allergies during his wedding in June. The patient also had some mild digestive complaints. Testing found he suffered from sensitivities to many of the foods he regularly ate. An elimination diet and cleanse treatment relieved his digestive problems in 3 weeks, as well as reducing minor allergy symptoms he had year-round. He was then recommended to take some natural medicines for allergies (see below) and enjoyed his wedding and honeymoon free of allergy symptoms.

Natural medicines versus Anti-histamines:

Anti-histamine medicines can be quick and effective. Some patients though find it is difficult to find an anti-histamine that is effective for them. Others run into a rebound effect where an anti-histamine is effective at first but loses its effectiveness as the allergy season progresses.

The following natural medicines have been proven in scientific reports to help allergy suffers:

  1. Quercetin
  2. Vitamin C, especially alkalinized version
  3. Herbal medicines like Nettles
  4. Homeopathic medicines like Apis, Urtica, and Sabadilla

Dr. Clack performs Muscle Response testing (MRT) to find which of these medicines, or a combination of them, to give you relief that you’re seeking with the concern of rebound.

Tired of taking allergy medicines all the time? Dr. Clack has performed NAET treatments for 22 years. Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques (or NAET) is an energetic re-balancing treatment that uses MRT and acupressure to modify and correct the allergic response of the body. He has used it successfully to treat seasonal allergies, food allergies and other types of allergies.

Allergy season is upon us soon. Consult with Dr. Clack to be ready.
